Marando's Restaurant
From the late 1940s to 1973, Marando's Restaurant offered first class celebrity entertainment and fine dining in the Quad Cities. Situated at the corner of 4th Street West and Holmes in Milan (adjacent to where Hy-Vee market is located today), Marando's hosted several A-list entertainers, including Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians; Liberace, Clyde McCoy, Bob Crosby, Carmen Cavallaro; and several local stars Marjorie Meinert.

Spago's Fresh Buffet in Rock Island
Spago's Fresh Buffet in Rock Island has closed its doors permanently.
A sign posted on the door Wednesday let customers know about the closing.
The sign read, "Thank you all who have supported us and it truly saddens us to go."
Anyone who purchased a gift certificate there can get a refund until Saturday.
The restaurant, located at 2704 18th Avenue, opened in March of 2018 and was the site of several eateries including Godfather's Pizza and Goombazz Big City Eatzz.
Village Inn closes in Davenport
The Village Inn, 5925 Brady St. Davenport, has permanently closed.
Update: Village Inn Restaurants has issued this statement. It reads:
"Village Inn Restaurants has announced it will close its 5925 N. Brady St. location in Davenport on Dec. 30.
"After careful consideration, we have made the tough but necessary decision to discontinue operations at this location" said a Village Inn spokesperson. "This is never an easy decision to make and one driven by many business factors. It is important to note that all employees who desire to stay with the company will be relocated to another location in the market or will be provided a parting severance package. Village Inn can't thank our loyal guests enough for their friendship and patronage over the years, and we invite them to join us at one of our other many locations where they will see the same friendly faces and enjoy great-tasting food."
EARLIER REPORT: The Village Inn, 5925 Brady St., Davenport, is permanently closed, according to a sign on its door Monday.
"We're sorry, this location is now permanently closed," the sign reads. "We look forward to seeing you at our other locations." The sign lists the other Davenport Village Inn locations at 1919 Harrison St. and 5239 Elmore Ave., Davenport.
The restaurant sign was not illuminated. Inside, several people worked behind locked doors.
American Blue Ribbon Holdings LLC, based in Nashville, Tennessee, operates four family and casual-dining restaurant groups in the United States. These include O'Charley's, Ninety Nine Restaurant and Pub, Village Inn and Bakers Square.
Company representatives did not return calls.
The company, which also operates Legendary Baking, is a majority-owned subsidiary of Cannae Holdings, Inc.

Sneaky Pete's bar and restaurant, 207 Cody Road, LeClaire, is now closed, according to owners on its Facebook page.

Millz Pizza & Grille on West Kimberly Road near Division Street has announced that they are closing, effective Jan. 23.
New Mandarin, Moline
The owners of the New Mandarin in Moline used a note on the door to tell customers the restaurant no longer is in business. Posted on the front door of the Chinese restaurant at 4808 27th St. is the following: "I am sorry to say that we are permanently closed. We are very proud to have served the Quad-Cities for 38 years. We will really miss all of you and wish you the best!"
The phone number for New Mandarin no longer is in service, and the owners could not be located for comment.
Rock Island County records show the property was purchased by Jimmy Wang and Allison Lai in October 1987. The restaurant was built in 1989.

After 30 years in business, the restaurant closed its doors in mid-October when owner Bud Canfield decided to retire and sell the property to the adjacent Quad-City International Airport. The site will be marketed for a new development by the airport.

Buck said his favorite meal was prime rib and Buck's potatoes, named after him. He asked for hash browns with green pepper, onions and cheese. The next time menus were printed, he saw "Buck's Potatoes."
